Switching to led
Professional users have different reasons to switch to led, such as cost control,
maintenance ease, marketing value, technological reasons, savings on climate control.
And of course CO2-targets or the ban on incandescent and later also halogen lamps
is often an motive.
Applying new technologies such as led lights, can immediately decrease energy usage
by 50 to 80%. This saves costs, reduces the CO2-emission and benefits our environment.
LED Lease implements projects in a large variety of lighting situations. We always
calculate the ‘financial business case’ for led lighting. It is based on our customers’
factual input, such as hours of usage, type of lamps, electricity price and maintenance
cost. Together we decide whether it is realistic to switch to led.
Our strong network and background in the led community allows us to stay at the
forefront of led technology. In the local market we partner with certification institutions
(KEMA, VSL), regulatory bodies and influential associations (NLA)
Approach
A successful led leasing project takes 2 to 3 months
Bases on the initial introduction, LED Lease analyses the cost of lighting and the
CO2-emissions. All data is cross checked with the client. When the business case
for led is positive, we always organize a pilot project to test the led lamps in
the electrical environment. Users will be asked for feedback on the quality of light.
Following a positive outcome of the pilot, a client may choose to buy or lease the
lamp. LED Lease’s extended warranties apply in both cases.
LED Lease partners with a number of renown installers. Clients can also work with
their preferred installer or internal technical department.
Assess the situation
LED Lease analyses the costs of lighting and potential savings
Assuming that led lighting is always the best solution, is not realistic. In several
occasions, the financial business case for led is simply not convincing and pay-back
periods remain extensive. Other sustainable lighting or dynamic solutions such as
dimmers and motion sensors may then be an alternative.
The simplified decision tree below, helps you to make an initial assessment whether
leds may generate quick savings in your organisation:
Depending on the hours of use, electricity price and type of lamp that is being
replaced, it may not be realistic to change conventional lighting to led. LED Lease
can help to make a client specific analysis of the total cost of lighting.
Light plan
When required, we create a customized lighting simulation based on the exact lay-out
and design of the space
A light plan can be particularly helpful in large scale renovation and new building
projects, where the actual lighting situation is not yet clear.
A light plan is a customized simulation of situation, including realistic a 3D picture.
The plan helps to envision the lighting spread and intensity. At the same time,
the module ensures technical requirements, such as the necessary lux values, beam
angels and shadows.
Based on your requirements, LED Lease will demonstrate a number of quality product
from different suppliers and designs that meet the light plan specifications.
Electrical installation
LED Lease organizes a pilot project and ensures proper interaction with dimmers
and building management systems
Leds can be fully dimmable depending on the quality of the power supply (‘driver’).
However, leds are semi-conductors systems. They will respond and interact differently
than incandescent or CFL lamps to transformers and dimmers.
There are numerous types of phase and electronic dimmers available world-wide. Dimmability
can be expressed as the percentage down to which a lamp can dim, and whether there
is a fluent pattern or a step-dimming function.
LED Lease works with suppliers to list dimmers that function well with their products
prevent any surprises during installation.
We advise on which transformers and dimming protocols (1-10V, DMX, Dali, KNX) can
be used with different led products.

Result
Besides cost reduction, led offers advantages with cooling, maintenance, waste management
and other aspects
Leds use less energy
Both the total usage (kWh) as well as the capacity needed (kW) is reduced. When
removing the ballast, usage is decreased even further, and a magnetic ballast which
is not removed will also use less energy because of the reduced power stream.
Less need for cooling
Leds produce very little heat, thus posing little requirement for a cooling system
Replacement cost
Cost of lamps, ballast, installation and removal are reduced due to the long lifetime
of led.
Tax benefits
Entrepreneurs investing in led, may benefit from the Energy Investment Deduction
program (EIA)
Good physical characteristics
Lightweight and slim casings allow leds to be assembled in blocks to form any size
or shape. No delicate parts that can be easily damaged, make them reliable and useful
for rugged applications
Technological benefits
Color rendering, power factor and frequencies are better then those of tube light.
Fast response times
Leds have a snap transition between on and off states, of the order of nanoseconds
rather than milliseconds as in the case of traditional lights, making them very
useful for high-speed applications
Energy label
A building may receive a better energy label due to the electricity reduction, which
can for instance improve the rentability.
Communal advantages
Because less electricity is generated, CO2-emission drop, which slows down the rise
of the sea level, the polar bears can survive and the Africans can keep cultivating
food.
